BJ's Wholesale Club began in 1984 as a venture of Zayre, a Massachusetts-based chain of discount stores. The chain was one of the first members-only warehouse clubs, allowing shoppers to buy products in bulk and save money. Today the store has 180 locations in 15 states and offers a range of services including gas stations, car rental and even optical departments. In 2011 the retailer brought in $10.9 billion in revenue.
As a supplier of televisions, clothes and other electronics, BJ's Wholesale Club has become a staple of Black Friday shoppers, with its advertisements being released weeks ahead of the popular shopping day. Deals include rebates of up to hundreds of dollars on televisions, cameras and car navigation systems.
