Originally founded as a pet food warehouse, Phoenix-based PetSmart opened its first store in 1987. After a few name changes, the company evolved into superstore stocking nearly everything a pet owner might need. Today, owners can shop for food and supplies while their pets have veterinary or grooming appointments. PetSmart also houses a pet day care and boarding hotel.

Every year PetSmart opens its doors on Black Friday for specials sales and discounts on regular and holiday-themed merchandise. During the Christmas season, you may find the stores inviting pets and their owners to have their pictures taken with Santa.
